Inauguration of  IIT Entrance Classes

 

The inaugural function of  IIT-Entrance Classes organised by the  Nehru Children’s Cultural Association was held at Yogalaya hall, Adyar.

Dr. S. Srinivasan, former Professor of Physics, IIT-Madras inaugurated the  

IIT-Entrance Classes and traced the lists of the JEE of the IITs from the Year 1961 till date. From around 10,000 candidates in the beginning, there are now close to 5 lakhs candidates knocking at the gates of the IITs. In his speech, he pointed out that despite the availability of talented candidates in Tamil Nadu, the number appearing for the IITs is much lesser compared to many other states.

 

Dr. R. Sridharan, Professor of Mathematics, Chennai Mathematical Institute Presided over the function and he emphasised the importance of the well known Tamil saying (seivana Thiruntha Chei) that anything done should be done to perfection despite the disadvantages attended on it.  He gave telling illustration of it by quoting from a Chinese poem in which a cobbler, who is a perfectionist prepares shoes whose soles don’t yield and their uppers don’t bend despite long usage. This causes him loss of income for want of orders for repairs. Yet he is happy that his job is done to perfection. He advised the students to aim at excellence and seek admissions in such institutions like IITs and CMI etc.

In his speech, Sathej Gopalakrishnan, student of IIT-M who is doing his B.Tech in Biotechnology said that the flexible curriculam in which  credit is  earned by the students choosing courses at their will – an encouragement for research

In his concluding speech, Kripa Shankar, Managing Trustee, Smt. Shanta and Kripa Shankar Charitable Trust advised the students to preserve the cultural heritage of our Nation.

Goutham Raj, student of Kola perumal Chetty Vaishnav Senior Secondary School welcomed the gathering.    

 

 B. Kaushiik, student of Sri Sankara Vidyalaya gave vote of Thanks.

 

S. Sruti, student of P.S. Senior Secondary School compered the programme.
